Charlie

A native of the Yorkshire town of Sheffield - and a lifelong fan of the city’s renowned soccer club Sheffield United – Charlie moved to Newcastle when she was 18 to study Language and Linguistics at University. In between her studies, Charlie’s generous nature saw her volunteer at a young offender’s institute, introducing youngsters to sport to help improve their confidence.

Her stunning looks and vibrant personality attracted the attention of TV agents and she was offered her first job in entertainment, reporting for MTV.  Interviews took Charlie across the world, interviewing some of the world’s biggest stars including Stevie Wonder and Eric Clapton.

After a few months she became the face of Real Madrid TV as a presenter on their International coverage.  She traveled all over the globe with the biggest club in the world, regularly interviewing the ‘Galacticos’. She has fronted up many of their commercial activities including the award-winning Adidas ‘Impossible is Nothing’ brand campaign which involved global icons David Beckham and Zinedine Zidane.

In 2006 an offer was made to Charlie to join ESPN. She became the first ever live female football presenter in Asia for ESPN and Star Sports hosting premier league football to a global audience of over 350 million. She also covered motorsport, Asian football and basketball. With her growing reputation, Charlie wrote numerous sports columns for newspapers in the Far East.

She ran her first marathon in Singapore in 2006, and since then has competed in five more, raising thousands of pounds for good causes including the Bobby Moore Fund for Cancer Research and Womens Aid UK. Charlie also helped train athletes with learning difficulties for the Singapore marathon as part of her work with the Special Olympics.

At the end of 2007 she returned to the UK and joined Setanta fronting the sports news and ITV to head up their motorsport coverage of GP2. Charlie also worked as a broadcast journalist for the BBC reporting on a variety of sports, this included interviewing Lewis Hamilton on his return to England after becoming the youngest F1 World Champion. Simon Fuller approached her at the end of 2008 and brought Charlie on board to present alongside Tim Lovejoy on an Internet TV show called Channel Bee during which she hosted the Red Bull Air Race coverage for ITV.

Charlie thrives in a live environment and currently presents Live Speedway on Sky Sports every week and is the voice of C4’s World Superbikes show. She recently presented the Goodwood Festival of Speed which went live for the first time on Sky Sports. Always a keen writer with a degree in Language and Linguistics, Charlie has a regular featured column on skysports.com and in Football Punk magazine.

Nike has recently worked with Charlie to inspire women to get involved in Sport. This is one of her major passion’s to engage society especially youth and women through sport. Big things are expected, watch this space…
